Glass Polishing Materials

Glass is widely used in making panels of doors, windows, and skylights of common residential buildings. However, these glass surfaces should be cleaned regularly to maintain the visibility and entry of natural light through these glass sheets. Proper maintenance can retain the original glaze of glass objects for a long time, preventing the needs of costly replacements of these glass pieces. However, it is necessary to know about the useful materials that can be used for polishing glass surfaces.
 

The most common chemical sold in all stores for polishing glass is Cerium oxide. It is available in the form of an orange or yellow powder, which is added with a little amount of water for making a paste before application. It can be easily applied with a polishing wheel that is rotated over the glass surface to spread this paste uniformly. The simplicity of application and effectiveness have made this chemical most popular among all glass polishing materials.

There are other Cerium, Silicon, and Zirconium salts that can be used for polishing glass items at home, due to the convenient chemical properties of these materials. However, Zirconium is a rare element and thus, not easily available in the markets.
 

Wax is a common material that is easily available everywhere at cheap prices. Apart from molten wax, few other materials, like acrylic, urethane and some polymers are also preferred as useful glass polishing substances. All these materials are easy to spread over glass surfaces and can eliminate all stains and accumulated dirt from the glass objects. Some people also prefer the use of little grits of a diamond, set over a circular polishing pad for rubbing in uniform motion over the flat glass surfaces.

All these materials help in increasing the longevity of glass items and also maintain the shiny look of the house, rendered by these polished glass surfaces.
